Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Banjarmasin Criminal Investigation Unit Police is investigating the discovery of a baby in the river area of Jalan Veteran, East Banjarmasin.
"It is true that we handle the discovery of newborn baby and now the police are investigating the case," said Head of Criminal Investigation Police Commissioner Wildan Albert Sik in Banjarmasin, Tuesday.
He said the baby was discovered by residents on Tuesday (22/12) at around 07.00 beside the latrine.
After finding the baby, citizens reported it to the police and the police quickly checked on the scene. The baby was immediately taken to general hospital (RSUD) Ulin Banjarmasin.
"The autopsy report says the baby was male and contained only six months," he said.
Head of Criminal Investigation unit also said it could not confirm whether the baby was the result of a normal birth or of an abortion. To find out, the autopsy should conduct.
"If this is the result of an abortion, then the perpetrator will be charged with murder and we have the legal rules," he said.
The police are investigating whether around the scene there was a pregnant woman and several health community centers in the region are also being questioned.
