Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Kotabaru Naval Base hold social events in the form of free cataract surgery in commemoration of Fleet Day 2015.
Kotabaru Naval Base Commander Marine Lt. Col. (P) Bagus Handoko here on Thursday said the social activities is one manifestation of the duties and obligations of Navy ranks to assist the government in improving the well-being of coastal and outlying islands communities.
"As well as increasing the potential for maritime and human resources," said Bagus.
Social activities also involve health workers from South Kalimantan Provincial Health Agency, Kotabaru General Hospital, the Indonesian Red Cross.
In addition to free cataract surgery, social service is also filled with a mass circumcision activities which followed by 161 children, free medical treatment for 148 people and blood donors for 69 people.
Kotabaru Naval Base also distributed 100 food packages to the needy and provide scholarships to 20 outstanding students from poor families.
