This is the fourth Gold Proper awards received by Adaro. The first was in 2012, and Adaro became a history as the the first mining company in Indonesia to win the highest award in the environmental management at that time.
“Proper award has not assessed only one but various aspects, from environmental management, good mining practice, to people empowerment in the mining surrounding. This is the results of hard work of all parties involved,” said PT Adaro Indonesia's Head of Mining Engineering Suhernomo.
Through this award, continued Suhernomo, in the future the synergy between functions at Adaro must continue to be strengthen.
“All aspects of Adaro's operations must synergize to achieve the goal of creating an independent post-mining community,” he said.
Meanwhile, PT Adaro Indonesia's CSR Department Head Leni Marlina said in this year's Proper assessment, Adaro carried out synergy program between post-mining planning and empowerment of kelulut honey in the community.
“Adaro has a concept of kelulut honey cultivation in its post mining research and development area. We then applied this concept to the Istana Kelulut, an MSME fostered by our CSR in Balangan District,” she expounded.
The Istana Kelulut development program, Leni said, has succeeded in becoming one ofthe mainstay in Adaro's Environment Social Innovation by changing the changing the method of cultivating kelulut honey in the community, which originally use tree-cutting pattern to sustainable cultivation through artificial nets.
“In addition, through this program, Adaro has succeeded in introducing good manufacturing practice concept through the innovation of automatic harvesting machine, packaging improvements, as well as completing marketing permits,” she explained.
During the pandemic, Adaro took the initiative to help MSMEs cultivating kelulut to survive by making large orders of their products, then distributing them to vulnerable groups in the company's operational areas as an immune supplement.
One of the groups were children who live in the Nurul Yaqin Orphanage in Inan Village, Paringin Selatan Sub-district, Balangan, South Kalimantan.
“Seeing the economic potential and benefits of kelulut honey, Adaro and Istana Kelulut then pushed the initiative for cooperation of kelulut cultivation at the Nurul Yaqin orphanage, so that it is hoped that it will not only meet the need of honey for the orphanage, but can also boost the economic aspect of the orphanage,” said Leni.
