Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Industry Ministry plans to strengthen the regulation on Indonesian National Standard (SNI) under its endeavors to offer a more competitive edge to the domestic industry to manufacture high-quality goods in a sustainable manner.
"Standardization plays an important role as a reference to ensure and control the quality of industrial products," Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita noted in a written statement released on Monday.
The Joko Widodo administration has stipulated Government Regulation No. 28 of 2021 on the Realization of the Industrial Sector that serves as a mandate of Law No. 11 of 2020 on Job Creation, he affirmed.
"The scope of the government’s regulation covers raw materials and/or auxiliary materials, development and control of institution assessing strategic industries, public participation in industrial development, and procedures of supervising and controlling the activities of industries and industrial estates," he remarked.

The minister was upbeat about Government Regulation No. 28 of 2021 being able to expedite industrial growth in the country and spur development of the domestic industry to compete in the global market. This regulation will offer facilities and certainty to industrial agents in tune with the purpose and objective of the job creation law.
"This Government Regulation will further control the mechanism of supervising industrial standardization not only at factories and markets but also at Suitability Assessing Institutions (LPK)," he noted.
The LPK comprises the Product Certification Institution (LSPro), test laboratories, and inspection institutions.
Chief of the Industrial Service Standardization and Policy Board at the Industry Ministry Sopar Halomoan Sirait remarked that the working unit is prepared and remains committed to conducting its tasks and duties in supervising the standardization of industries and suitability of assessing institutions.
