South Kalimantan Province Police Chief Insp.Gen. Rikwanto on Tuesday came to review the location while checking the cause of the flood that had not subsided.
"Maybe the area here is quite low, so the water is retained. I ask to make sure that all water channels flow properly," he said while at the location on Jalan Ahmad Yani km 4,5 Banjarmasin.
The Police Chief also inspected the evacuation post, health post, as well as public kitchens where he handed over assistance.
He advised officers on duty at the post to provide the best service to the police and their families who had to evacuate, as well as the general public who were also accommodated at the post.
"The most important thing now is health service at the post are maximized, because the current flood conditions are prone to causing various diseases, in addition to daily food needs," he emphasized.
The flood at the Aspol Binabrata not only submerged houses of National Police members and residents, the East Banjarmasin Police Headquarters and the building of South Kalimantan Police's Directorate of Special Crime Investigation were also inundated.
The flood condition in the city of Banjarmasin began to worry, thus Mayor H Ibnu Sina decided to raise the status from alert to flood emergency response since Friday (Jan 15, 2021).
The city government had established command posts in five sub-district and 52 urban villages and made public facilities as temporary shelters, while opens public kitchens in each sub-districts to provide 1,500 packages of rice per day.
