Tanah Laut (ANTARA) - A number of environmental volunteers led by Cyber Adventure Indonesia, a digital literacy organization concerned with environmental conservation, have planted trees in the Essential Ecosystem Area (KEE) of Panjaratan, which is an educational and conservation area for probosci's monkey or bekantan.
All participants boarded a tour boat belonging to Panjaratan Village, and managed by the Surai Bekantan Tourism Awareness Group, on a 30 minutes trip to the planting location, an activist Yamadipati noted in a press release sent to Antaranew South Kalimantan, Sunday.
"We hope this activity is not only a ceremony, which runs out once but can be maintained in line with the goals of tree planting and fostering movement," said Adi Rahmani from the Tanah Laut Environment Office, who provided education on the importance of environmental sustainability.
Campaign Manager for Orangutan Foundation International (OFI) Dorprawati Siburian symbolically handed over the support of 700 seeds of Ndoking and Medang Natai trees, one of the main sources of food for bekantan and orangutan in their natural habitat.

South Kalimantan Forestry Agency through the Tanah Laut Forest Management Unit (KPH), who also provided support for plant seeds, gave appreciation for the planting activities.
"KEE Panjaratan is a colony of the bekantan native habitat. By planting trees, we hope their natural habitat will be better, thus the population can be maintained and develops," said Agus Suprianto representing KPH Tanah Laut.
Tree planting and fostering movement is a synergy of all parties, both government and private, also supported by Chairman of Commission II of South Kalimantan DPRD Imam Suprastowo, Joko Pitoyo from Tanah Laut DPRD, Gahipbta Tanah Laut, PT Jorong Barutama Greston, PT K-resources Indonesia, and SMAN 1 Pelaihari, one of the national adiwiyata school in Tanah Laut.
