Donggala, C Sulawesi (ANTARA) - Incessant and heavy rains over the past few days triggered a flash flood in the sub-districts of Banawa Tengah and Banawa Selata in Donggala district, Central Sulawesi province, on Thursday night.
No fatalities were reported in the flood, which affected seven villages in Banawa Tengah and six villages in Banawa Selatan, member of the Donggala District Legislative Council (DPRD), Asgaf Umar, informed on Friday night.
“As per the report we have received, no fatalities have been reported in the natural disaster,” he said.
However, the flood forced local residents to shift to higher grounds, he said.

Many houses in the two sub-districts were submerged and damaged in the deluge, he added.
“No data on houses and residents affected by the flood in the sub-districts of Banawa Tengah and Banawa Selatan is available,” he continued.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) office at Mutiara Airport in the provincial capital of Palu had earlier announced that several areas in the province are likely to experience extreme weather in the next few days.
The BMKG has forecast the La Nina weather phenomenon will peak between January and February, 2021. However, several parts of the country have seen high rainfall since early this month.
Heavy rainfall has the potential to trigger natural disasters such as floods and landslides.
