Tanjung, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Tabalong declared itself as the first district in Kalimantan that is free from open defecation (ODF).
"The achievement makes Tabalong the only district or the first in Kalimantan as an ODF Regency," said Regent H Anang Syakhfiani in Tanjung in a virtual declaration attended by all village, urban village, and sub-district government throughout the regency, Monday (Oct 12, 2020).
Director-General of Environment Health of the Indonesian Ministry of Health Imran Agus Nurali, Head of South Kalimantan Health Agency HM Muslim, Deputy Regent H Mawardi, Chairwoman of TP PKK Tabalong Hj Syarifah Syifa, local Leadership Communication Forum, heads of government agencies of Tabalong also attended.
While Acting Governor Rudy Resnawan, PT Adaro Energy's CSR Division Head, who is also head of Adaro Bangun Negeri Foundation (YABN), Okty Damayanti joined virtually.
The award certificate from the Acting Governor of South Kalimantan was handed over by the Head of South Kalimantan Health Office, accompanied by Director-General of Environment Health, to the regent of Tabalong.
Regent H Anang Syakhfiani in his remarks said the achievement was the result of a long journey since 2012.
"This award is actually for the people of Tabalong who have full awareness of abandoning the habit of open defecation," he said.
This is because they increasingly understand the importance of stopping open defecation.

He also said that this success was due to the hard work and cooperation of various elements from the district level to sub-district and village levels.
Including the support of involvement and collaborative work of YABN, which is fully supported by PT Adaro Indonesia, PT Adaro Energy and partners, and the hard work of Tuntas (Leave open defecation for Healthy Tabalong) Movement Working Group at the district, sub-district, village and urban village levels.
"Togetherness is what cause Tabalong achieved this proud achievement. Currently, 131 villages and urban villages, and 12 sub-districts in Tabalong Regency have ODF," he said.Tabalong declares the first ODF district
