Kandangan, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Regent of South Hulu Sungai (HSS) H. Achmad Fikry stated "without our teacher we would be nothing, without teachers I could not stand here as Regent of HSS." This statement was greeted with applause from the teachers.
He congratulated PGRI's 74th Anniversary and National Teacher's Day, along with prayers hopefully the PGRI family in the coming years will further improve their performance and improve services to the community.
"We also express our gratitude for the devotion and dedication of the teachers so far in carrying out their duties," he said in remarks to the 74th Anniversary of the Indonesian Teachers Association (PGRI) and the commemoration of the 2019 National Teachers' Day at Tebing Tinggi Soccer Field, Simpur, Thursday (Dec 12, 2019).
He said there were still many homeworks that PGRI would continue to fight for. He asked PGRI to work seriously, maintain integrity, set an example in character education and not easily leave class.
In addition, he reminded, the quality of learning is also the tasks and responsibilities that teachers must hold firmly, while fighting for aspirations is the commitment of the PGRI management.
General Chairperson of the PGRI Executive Board Unifah Rosyidi in a written speech read by the Regent conveyed the importance of the role of teachers in improving the quality of education.
"Putting the importance of education in the constellation of national development means respecting the primacy of teachers, and this is contained in the theme of the 74th anniversary of PGRI namely the strategic role of teachers in realizing superior Indonesia," she said.
According to her, this theme was also substantially integrated with the theme of the National Teachers' Day from the Ministry of Education and Culture, which is "The teacher driving Indonesia forward".
No matter how advanced technology is with all its derivatives, teachers cannot be replaced by technology. This implies that professional teachers and integrity will continue to be global issues and become a worldwide concern, not least in Indonesia.
