Hilir Muara Bercahaya garbage bank in Hilir Muara Village, North Pulau Laut Sub-district Kotabaru, managed to collect 150 kilograms of garbage at the initial weighing.

Chairman of waste bank Muhammad Ramli said that such garbage was collected in just three hours.

"On Sunday we tried to weigh to find out how public interest was. Alhamdulillah, from nine to twelve o'clock, 150 kilograms were collected," he said.

He was very happy to see the enthusiasm of the community towards the existence of a waste bank.

Not only adults, children were also eager to pick up garbage, even under the house.

"It seems like the underneath rubbish has been cleaned up picked up by the kids," he joked.

The waste bank aims to reduce waste by inviting people to sort recyclable waste, such as paper and plastic.

The garbage deposited by the community to the waste bank can be exchanged for money. The value varies for each type of waste. After weighing, the results will be recorded as a balance in the savings book of each customer.

"The system is saving, later after one month or several months the money can be disbursed," he added.

Money is obtained from the sale of garbage to collectors who have cooperated with the waste bank manager.

But not all garbage will be sold, because there are also some that are processed into economic value items, such as handicrafts.
