Barabai, South Kalimantan, 10/4 (AntaranewsKalsel) - Lovers of offroad 4x4 car back to test guts in the International Meratus Expedition (MEX) 2017 exploring the mountains range of Meratus cross-districts in South Kalimantan.
MEX Barabai Leader Syamsir Alam on Monday revealed the offroad track this time is longer and more extreme than in previous years, because South Kalimantan has innumerable rivers, high mountains, and densed jungles.
"This event was attended by participants from abroad, such as Malaysia, the Netherlands, and Brunei Darussalam," he said.
Taking the start in front of the residence of the regent Central Hulu Sungai (HST), this event is followed by 93 cars involved 400 participants. The finish will be in Tanah Bumbu the next 14 days.
"Our target is to introduce the untapped tourist areas in South Kalimantan to all over the world. Also to find an alternative path of development prospects of land transportation in remote areas," he said.
Executive chairman Senior Commissioner Rizal Wirawan added, 14 days trip is quite heavy and needed inter-team cooperation to get through the whole extreme fields.
"2017 MEX has become an icon offroad of Indonesia and the world. We look forward to the participants if return hometown later to convey that nature of Kalimantan is a wonderful tourism potential and needs to be developed," he added.
Regent HST H Abdul Latif expressed his gratitude for choosing the district into the main line and be reciprocal for the regional situation in the field of tourism.
He advised that the offroader preserve the natural environment and to avoid damages and maintained properly.
