Hulu Sungai Selatan (HSS) held a district level "Watermelon Fruit Contest" which displaying the biggest and the smallest watermelon.

"This is to enliven the 74th anniversary of HSS District, as well as to revive HSS as a producer of superior varieties of watermelon," said Head of HSS Agriculture Office Muhammad Noor as noted in HSS Communication and Informatics Office's (Diskominfo's) press release, Friday.

The activity was held at the front yard of Sabilal Muthaqin Mosque, Muning Baru Village, Daha Selatan Sub-district. Even though it was raining, the event went quite lively and smoothly.

Some 47 farmers took part in the contest. 21 of them participated in big watermelon contest, and 26 others competed for the small watermelon.

"The watermelons on display vary in size, from the largest to the smallest, and this is a special attraction for the invited guests," he said.

He hopes the contest can revive the name of HSS as a producer of superior and quality watermelon, and inspire younger generation to innovate in the agricultural sector.

Also present, acting Chair of HSS TP-PKK (Family Empowerment and Welfare driving team) Mutia Anwary Endri, heads of regional apparatus organizations (OPD), boards of TP-PKK, and other guests.
