The Environment and Forestry (LHK) Ministry bestowed the National Adiwiyata Mandiri award, the highest grade of green school, on SMAN I Tanta, a public senior high school in Tabalong District, South Kalimatan.
SMAN 1 Tanta Principal Eko Prayitno received the award handed over by LHK Deputy Minister Alue Dohong at the Manggala Wanabakti Building, Jakarta, last Wednesday.
"This achievement is the results of the hard work of the solid and strong commitment of the school's Adiwiyata team," said Eko here on Sunday (Oct 6, 2024).
One of the figures who played an important role behind this achievement was Siti Habibah, head of SMAN 1 Tanta Adiwiyata team.
For her, the journey to Adiwiyata award was full of challanges. Even though they failed several times, it did not break the spirit of the team.
“If we want to progress, we must be solid and this year we prepared everything to the maximum with the team in the school," she said.

Apart from that, Habibah acknowledged that support from Adaro Foundation (YABN) and PT Adaro Indonesia was very helpful for the school environmental awareness movement program.
YABN has provided various sustainable development programs at SMAN 1 Tanta since 2009, one of which was the implementation of Project-Based Learning, which has a significant impact on the school.
Then, the support also came from PT Adaro Indonesia's CSR program during the period of 2014 to 2016.
This program gave an opportunity for the Adiwiyata team to broaden their insight, improved their teaching skills, built network and strengthened school organization.
This year, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry gave the Adiwayata awards to 720 schools, from elementary to senior high school and madrasah, that met the criteria for the school environmental awareness movement, in accordance with the Environment and Forestry Minister's Regulation Number 53 of 2019.
As many as 208 schools received the Adiwiyata Mandiri and 512 other schools were awarded National Adiwiyata.
