Food Security and Animal Husbandry Agency (DKPP) of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, has trained and practiced with farmers in Tanjung Selayar Sub-district to process fermented animal feed (silage).
"This training is provided as an effort to increase skill of breeders in their respective areas," said Head of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health of the agency drh. Sidiq Adi Susilo in Kotabaru, Thursday.
He said, making forage silage as an alternative animal feed has been widely used in several farmer groups in Kotabaru.
Silage is a method that allows forage to be stored for several months. It contains high nutrition and is long lasting, so it can be an alternative feed during lean or dry season.
Silage processing results will be stored for one month to maintain the quality of the feed.

"In several places where the results have been tested, livestock eat Silage very voraciously," he said.
Sidiq expounded that the silage formula consisted of 50 kg Odot grass, 5 kg of bran, and one liter of molasses.
“This activity will continue to be conducted in livestock groups and we will provide assistance, so that breeders can apply it well," he said.
Head of Bangun Rejo Village, Purnomo, expressed his gratitude to the agency for providing the training of making an alternative animal feed, so that the community know how to make it.
"We didn't know it before, now we know it. Hopefully we will then can improve the quality of breeders," said Purnomo.
Purnomo hopes that after receiving the training, it will be accompanied with receiving assistance of feed chopping machine to make it easier and boost production for both breeding farmers and fattening.
