Regent of Kotabaru Sayed Jafar has harvested vaname shrimp in a pilot pond of the district Fisheries Office's Fish Seed and Health Center (BBKI) in Gedambaan Village, Pulau Laut Sigam Sub-district.
"Hopefully the pilot vaname shrimp cultivation at the BBKI, Gedambaan Village, able to produce high quality and marketable shrimp,” said Sayed Jafar in Kotabaru, Wednesday.
He expected that the pilot program provided by the local government to give an impact and image to the community to do the same and develop it.
Head of the Kotabaru Fisheries Office Khairil Fajri said that the vaname shrimp pilot cultivation program through the seed center is to draw attention of shrimp farmers, which is currently beginning to decrease.
"This program is in line with the vision and mission of the regional head," said Khairil Fajri.
Not only to improve the quality of vaname shrimp production, the office will also carry out stimulant effort for fishermen and fish farmers to push aquaculture production results.
"So far they only focus on one commodity," he said.

Khairil explained that from harvesting in three plots, with one plot stocked with 30 thousand seeds, it was able to produce 300 to 400 kilograms of vaname shrimp.
"Harvesting duration is two and half to three months. It is sold around Rp50,000-Rp60,000 per kg," he said.
"We give an example with a limited area we can produce quite large production," he expounded.
Khairil hopes the success of this pilot pond will increase the interest of people, Kotabaru in particular, to pursue shrimp cultivation.
