Regional Secretary of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, H Said Akhmad led a planting action of 24,000 mangrove seedlings and sea pine together with the community and companies as an effort to prevent abrasion on sea coast.
Said Akhmad said plant as many mangrove as possible, apart from being a good oxygen producer, it is jariyah alm to benefit the earth, our children and grandchildren in the future.
"We hope the mangrove have been planted to be protected and maintained by community or farmer groups have been appointed so they can grow and develop well and continue to expand their area," the Secretary noted in a press release, Wednesday.
Head of Kotabaru Environment Agency H M Maulidiansyah informed that the planting of thousands of mangrove seedlings is an effort to overcome the impacts of climate change, such as global warming, abration and protecting habitat on the coast.

"In addition to Semisir, similar activities will also be carried out in Langadai, Tarjun, and Tanjung Pangga until November 2024," he said.
Maulid explained that the fund for the activity came from palm oil revenue sharing funds from the central government, as a reward for Kotabaru's achievement in achieving the best Environmental Quality Index in South Kalimantan in 2023.
Based on data from the Environment Agency, Kotabaru District has the largest coastal area in South Kalimantan, namely 10.6 thousand square meters or 28% of the entire coast in the province, while its potential area of mangrove reaches 62,000 hectares.
The activity labeled Mangrove For Banua was initiated by the Kotabaru Environment Agency on Wednesday, August 21 in Semisir Village, Pulau Laut Tengah Sub-district, Kotabaru.
