The Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, Environment Agency (DLH), planted 5,000 mangrove seedlings together with military (TNI) and police (Polri) and also involving community and students in Tanjung Pangga Village, Kelumpang Selatan Sub-district
"DLH conducts an annual program to plant mangrove on several coasts spread across the Kotabaru area," said Head of Management, Pollution Control, and Environment Damage of the agency Baderuddin here on Tuesday.
"This year's (activity) is centered in Tanjung Pangga Village involving elements of the sub-district, TNI, Polri, local community and students," he said.
By involving students, he expounded, they are expected to understand how to plant seeds and in the future understand the importance of caring and protecting plants already planted in their place.

The agency also provided education to students about healthy mangrove ecosystem serves as deterrent abrasion, withstanding storms, filtering coarse pollutants, and place to live and spawning marine life, so they can provide a food source for some existing species.
"At least they understnad the importance of mangrove ecological benefits for coastal communities," he said.
Baderuddin hopes, by continuing to intensify planting mangrove in several places in the coastal area of Kotabaru can maintain the ecosystem and be able to withstand sea water abrasion and protect from the wider erosion of the shoreline.
