The South Kalimantan Provincial Anti-Narcotics Agency (BNNP Kalsel) succeeded in rehabilitating 74 drug users during 2023 through the program implemented at the agency's Pratama Clinic.

"The drug abusers consisted of 63 undergoing outpatient treatment and 11 inpatient," said Chief of the South Kalimantan Provincial Anti-Narcotics Agency (BNNP) Brig. Gen. (Pol) Wisnu Andayana in Banjarmasin, Wednesday.

He said, 38 drug abusers or 51 percent of them were methamphetamine (sabu-sabu) addicts.

Officers' assessment showed, victims confessed that at the very beginning it was friends who invited them, then they took initiative to try the illicit goods.

Wisnu reminded the public not to be tempted to use drug, because they will be addicted and no longer be able to escape the feeling of wanting to consume it.

He acknoledged that the absence of special rehabilitation center for drug addicts in South Kalimantan was a concern, considering the importance of the center for healing.

Currently it is estimated that there are quite a lot of drug addicts in South Kalimantan, although the number cannot be recorded with certainty, because victims of abuse tend to keep hiding themselvels.

"However, from the consultation services opened by the BNNP this year, up to 400 people came claiming to be drug users," he said.

Currently, the BNNP is collaborating with the Provincial Government's Sambang Lihum Hospital for inpatient care.

There are also abusers who were forced to referred to the BNN's Lido Rehabilitation Center in West Java, and the Tanah Merah Rehabilitation Center, which also belongs to  BNN in East Kalimantan, and the Makassar Badokka Rehabilitation Center, which is the ony BNN rehabilitation facility in Sulawesi.

"Hopefully South Kalimantan will also have a rehabilitation center, so that the treatment of abuse victims will be more optimal. We really hope that the provincial government and other parties to assist," said Wisnu.
