The South Kalimantan Prosecutor's Office (Kejati Kalsel) stated that a drug rehabilitation center is urgently needed in the province considering the quite high cases of narcotics.

"Don't let us put narcotics user in jail simply because there is no place to rehabilate them," said Assistant for General Crime at the South Kalimantan Prosecutor's Office Ramadhanu Dwiyantoro here on Sunday.

South Kalimantan only relies on Sambang Lihum Mental Hospital in Banjar District as a place to treat drug addicts caught by the police or the local Narcotics Agency(BNN).

Ramdhanu hopes that the rehabilitation center with representative facilities and officers to treat drug addicts can soon be realized in South Kalimantan.

Previously, Attorney General ST Burhanuddin initiated the establishment of Adhyaksa Rehabilitation Center as an effort of the Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Indonesia to rorient its narcotics policy that should notjail drug addicts through a restorative justice approach as implementation principle of "Dominus Litis" prosecetor.

"Of course it requires collaboration, especially support of local government and private sector as our effort and concern to save those who are victims of drug abuse," said the Attorney General.

Throughout 2022, the South Kalimantan Prosecutor's Office had received as many as 4,557 notification letters to start investigation (SPDP) from the police with a majority cases of drugs crime.

As of January 2023, there have been 20 cases were handled by the prosecutor's office out of a total of 33 SPDPsentered the General Crime Division.
