Regent of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, Sayed Jafar, received the award for developing climate village program (Pembina Proklim) from Minister of Environment and Forestry (LHK) Siti Nurbaya Bakar in Jakarta.
"Its a trigger for Kotabaru to work harder, smarter, and more sincerely in serving the people, especially protecting the environment and climate," said Sayed Jafar in Kotabaru, Thursday, after receining the award.
He said that climate change is currently quite worrying, the earth's temperature is increasing, we must all make efforts to protect the environment, such as movement to plant trees, managing waste, and prevent pollution.
In effort in Proklim, the Kotabaru government has built RKKIK (Climate and Carbon Consultation Collaboration House).
"This award is given as our commitment and fostering the region to maintain the environment balance for anticipating the impact of climate change," he said.
Head of the Kotabaru Environment Office Maulidiansyah said that the award to the Regent of Kotabaru as Proklim Advisor was an appreciation for the efforts had been made by the regional government in implementing climate village program.
This is proven by the number of villages winning Proklim awards, namely four villages won Proklim Utama, two won Proklim Madya, and 21 villages for the category of Proklim Pratama, while one village is in the process of moving towards Proklim Lestari, its Tegal Rejo Village.
"This is very encouraging because Kotabaru Regent became one of 42 districts in Indonesia that is best in developing climate village, for our people to be more adaptive and anticipative to climate change, so their lives become more prosperous," said Maulidiansyah.
Also present at the event was Minister of LHK Siti Nurbaya Bakar accompanied by several director generals and other ministry officials.
