The Tanah Bumbu Environment Office (DLH) Office made an agreement with PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa Tbk (ITP) Plant Tarjun, Kotabaru, in handling waste problems in the district.
"The garbage in Tanah Bumbu will be managed by the company as fuel from domestic waste processing," said Head of Tanah Bumbu DLH Rahmat Prapto Udoyo in Batulicin, Tuesday.
He said the agreement has been inked at the PT ITP Citeureup Bogor Office on September 27, 2023.
By the end of October, after the signing of agreement, the dispatch of domestic waste processing results at the Sungai Dua Landfill, Simpang Empat Sub-district, will begin to PT ITP to be processed into alternative fuel to replace coal.
The cooperation is carried out for more optimal waste management in Tanah Bumbu Regency, especially in the Sungai Dua Final Processing Site (TPA).
"By reducing waste that enters the active cell, the lifespan of the landfill will be longer," said Rahmat.

Before being deposited in active cell, waste collected from temporary disposal sites (TPS) will be re-sorted by employees according to the types required in the cooperation. Then, it is pressed to the dimension and volume agreed upon both parties.
Waste outside the required category or referred to as residue is disposed in active landfill cell.
The result of waste processing in the form of alternativce fuel (BBA) is called raw Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF).
RDF is produced from processing dried waste by reducing water content by up to 25 percent and increasing calorific value after manual sorting dan drying.
"This agreement is carried out because of the potential of RDF as an alternative energy source which is the process involves combustion using coal such as at the cemet factory of PT ITP Tarjun Kotabaru," he expounded.
