The Central Hulu Sungai (HST) government keeps maintaining Save Meratus commitment by developing a creative economy in various fields, said acting District Secretary Muhammad Yani.
"So, Save Meratus is not just a slogan, but we continue to empower the community by developing an eco-friendly upstream community-based economy," he said during the Wayang Sampir performance at the Pagat Batu Benawa tourist attraction, Saturday (Oct 2, 2021) in the series of Meratus coffee launching.
Yani said, in collaboration with a number of parties and after going through research, it turned out that four types of coffee can be planted in HST, namely Arabica, Robusta, Excelso, and Liberica.
"We empower millennials who want to farm coffee, they will be trained from planting coffee, maintaining, picking, roasting, brewing, and will be assisted in marketing or becoming a barista," he said.
Thus these efforts can improve the community's economy, especially in the Meratus area. "That's why we call it Meratus Coffee and the plain is there are 100,000 coffee seeds to be planted," he pointed out.
HST, he continued, will become the center for coffee development in South Kalimantan.

Meanwhile, the Save Meratus movement continues to campaign through arts and cultures. "There are some artists go national in our region, that potential will introduce HST to the world with various art and culture performances," he said.
"So entrepreneurs no longer see the potential of mining, but they will look at other fields, such as art and culture that we develop as a characteristic of our district and hope there are investors who interested to collaborate," he said.
