The government of Banjarmasin City built hundreds of toilets in the riverside area in Kampung Hijau, Kampung Melayu Urban Village, East Banjarmasin, so that residents no longer defecate directly to the river.
"Today we inaugurate and hand over assistance to the residents of Kampung Biru, Kampung Melayu, in the form of sanitation with biofil for household waste," said MayorH Ibnu Sina who was accompanied by Deputy Mayor H Arifin Noor and other officials during the inauguration, Thursday.
Ibnu hopes that the sanitation program with a biofilter is utilized and managed by the residents, especially those who live on the banks of the Martapura River, Banjarmasin.
The aim is, Ibnu Sina continued, that residents no longer defecate directly into the river but through biofilters that can reduce pollution.
"Kampung Biru is a tourist destination and we will complete the facilities, including sanitation facilities," he said.
Previously, Banjarmasin Mayor and Banjar Regent have signed an agreement of the community-based Sungai Martapura Bungas (the Beautiful Martapura River) program which was witnessed by the Governor of South Kalimantan.
"This part of the program in the City of Banjarmasin so that Martapura River is clean," he said.
"Today there are 113 units of wastewater treatment that we handed over from the Cipta Karya (human settlement development) of PUPR Agency, later we will increase to other settlements on the riverbanks," he said.
