The pandemic has, however, caused the integrated health services post (posyandu) activities became very rare considering the threat of COVID-19 transmission.
Even though, there are still other problems that threaten the growth and development of the nation's next generation, one of which is stunting.
Prolonged malnutrition causes children to have difficulty of growing until they become stunted. This condition also affects the thinking ability of children.
Concern about this, PT Tanjung Power Indonesia (TPI), a subsidiary of Adaro Power, has activated posyandu activities which had been suspended until May 2021, due to the high transmission of COVID-19 in Tabalong.
TPI makes a strategy to keep posyandu activities to continue, keeps providing health services for pregnant women, and provides nutrition for infants and toddlers around its operational area, even in the midst of the pandemic.
Visitors are required to comply with strict health protocols, their number is limited to 25, in order to minimize the risk of being infected with COVID-19.
Section Head CSR & External Relation of PT TPI Ikroman expounded that the activity is carried out once every month. Through posyandu caders, health services for infants and toddlers are provided in the form of immunization, weighing babies, and providing nutrition and milk.
“Posyandu services for the surrounding communities are a form of commitment of the company to support the growth and development of infants and toddlers around the company's operational areas,” he said.
The service, he said, is not only focusing on infants and toddlers, but also facilitates parents if they want to check cholesterol, blood sugar, and other non-communicable diseases.
This service is well utilized by the surrounding community. One of them Yeni, a resident of Citra Tanjung Lestari Housing Complex, said she was happy with the presence of posyandu in the area. She hopes that this health service will be carried out regularly even during the pandemic.
