Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalimantan) - A total of 90 spawning mangrove crabs and a small crab released into their habitat in the Barito River to maintain their sustainability.


Section Head of Control and Information Fish Quarantine Centre of Class II Banjarmasin Wiwit Supriyono said, crabs released are of confiscation by Syamsudin Noor Airport Quarantine. Two coli of crab to be sent to Surabaya, one of which contains laying egg crab.

Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries has issued Regulation No. 1 of 2015 which prohibits the capture of crabs, lobsters and crabs that are laying eggs or size that does not fit.

"The prohibition of catching laying egg crabs is to preserve the animals," said Wiwit.

In South Kalimantan, Mangrove crabs are common in the region of the Barito River estuary and Kotabaru. Spawning crab preferred to be eaten by consumers.

Before the ministerial regulations, laying crabs delivery are very widespread by fishery entrepreneurs because the price is quite expensive ranging from Rp140 thousand per kg for the domestic market. While abroad, it can reach hundreds of thousands.
