The United Arab Emirates (UEA) and the State Polytechnic of Banjarmasin (Poliban) have collaborated in social action by donating 99 motorized boats to residents of South Kalimantan who were affected by the flood.

Poliban Director Joni Riadi here on Sunday (April 11, 2021) said that the grant was distributed by UAE through the humanitarian organization Emirates Red Crescent to Banjar District, Barito Kuala District, and Banjarmasin City which were the longest inundated by the flood last January.

The handover on Wednesday (April 8) at the Wasaka Museum pier Banjarmasin was attended by representatives from UEA Embassy, H Akhmad Asyari Lc MA and Abdullah Raden Aji Haqqi SH, MH.

Joni Riadi was very grateful for the trust given by UAE to his campus to carry out and supervise the implementation of the assistance. 

Representative of UAE Ambassador Akhmad Asy'ari in a release delivered by Poliban noted that the grant of 99 motorized boats was expected to benefit the people of South Kalimantan, especially those affected by flooding.

According to him, the Emirates Red Crescent program was not only implemented in Kalimantan, but also in other regions, such as Sukabumi.

"This program is from ummah for the ummah. Hopefully, this program will really help and can reduce the burden of the people who are also affected by the pandemic in the last one year," he said.

The person in charge of the UAE assistance from Poliban, Dr Arif Budiman said the construction of the motorboats was done by local residents and completed in one month.

UAE not only distributed motorized boat assistance but also provided house renovation in Paku Alam Village, Sungai Tabuk, Banjar District.

"There are two houses renovated, one belonging to Grandma Banjar, the other was Grandpa's Thamrin," he said.

He hopes that in the future this collaboration with the UAE to continue.
