Allegedly due to flood which caused a decrease in supply, the price of Hiyung bird's eye chili in Tapin jumped to IDR130,000 per kg.
"The increase in price occurred from January 2021 until now. While the price of other chili is relatively normal," said Head of Tapin Trade Agency H Harliansyah, Monday.
"Factors that affect the price increase, especially in Tapin, many agricultural lands were submerged, thus the production decreases," he said.
The Tapin needs of cayenne pepper are usually supplied from South Hulu Sungai (HSS), Central Hulu Sungai (HST), and others, but during the flood, a lot of lands were swamped.
"Chili price in the markets is between IDR100,000 to IDR130,000 per kg," said Noorhayu, a merchant at Rantau Market.

The planting schedule of Tapin's Hiyung bird's eye chili in Hiyung Village, Tapin Tengah Sub-district, is estimated in April and harvesting will begin between July and August 2021.
"(At this time) wet Hiyung bird's eye chili is not available. But the stock of dried chili for the production of shredded chili is still a lot," he said.
