The forest protection team of the Tabalong Forest Management Unit (KPH) has evacuated a kid of proboscis monkey or bekantan (Nasalis larvatus) in Simpung Layung Village, Muara Uya Sub-district.

Head of the KPH's Forest Protection Section Zainal Abidin said that previously there was a report from residents regarding the finding of a long-nosed monkey kid.

"We have secured the male bekantan kid and it will be handed over to the Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) of Banjarbaru," said Zainal.

For the time being, the Kalimantan endemic is being treated at the local KPH office.

The monkey kid was found at a rubber plantation in a state of threat by a group of children playing catapults and trying to catch it.

Then a resident of Simpung Layung Village rescued the monkey kid by taking it home and looking after it for about a week.

Zainal said that the proboscis monkey kid is planned to be released in the Essential Ecosystem Area owned by PT Antang Gunung Meratus.
