Banjarmasin Mayor H Ibnu Sina has not given a permit yet to re-activate car free day as the city is still in a COVID-19 emergency response after lifting the Large Scale Social Restriction (PSBB).

"Car free day is not re-activated yet, owing to the fact of the still high transmission of COVID-19 in the city," he asserted here,Saturday.

Even though, PSBB has been lifted for almost a month, and the city is moving toward a new normal, but to allow a large crowds is very alarming.

"We all should be vigilant, all of our areas are almost not only red but nearly black," he warned.

He said he has instructed the Health Office to continue tracing to the transmission intensively, so that prevention can be done optimally.

The measures were taken including by restricting a high number of crowds, such as car free day, where thousands of people flock to one point.

Not only car free day, Ibnu Sina pointed out, places of tourism have not been officially open yet by the city government for fear they will make a high crowd, where safe protocol can be igroned by the people.

He asked the people to be patient for the safety of us all. "Its okay if people only doing exercises, such as running or cycling, but must comply to the health protocol, wearing masks and keep a distance," he said.

Banjarmasin's car free day has been suspended since the city implemented the large scale social restriction on March 24, 2020.
