Houses in five neighborhood units in Cempaka Sub-district, Banjarbaru, were inundated after heavy rains since dawn on Wednesday (Jan 1, 2020).

Head of the Banjarbaru Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Daily Executive Zaini said he immediately went down to the location the see first hand the condition in the field.

"We have gone down to the flood location and tens of houses have been listed of being inundated as high as 50 centimeters as a result of heavy rain, but the pudlle have gone now," Zaini said at noon on Wednesday.

The cause of puddle that turned into flooding, he said, was due to the large amount of rainwater that the Basung River could not accomodate then it inundated the surrounding areas. 

Although it took only a few hours, but the waters that entered the residents' houses had made them busy to secure their valuable belongings.

"It did not damage the houses, but people had to secure their belongings such as electric appliances so as not to be soaked and became damaged because of water," said the former chief or urban village. 

The inundation that effected Jalan Kertak Baru covered the neighborhood unit (RT) of 22, 23, 24, 25 and RT 6 of Cempaka Urban Village which are occupied by 34 houses or heads of family.
