A Chinese businessman was interested in purun and water hyacinth craft products from the Kembang Ilung Gallery in Banyu Hirang Village, North Hulu Sungai District, South Kalimantan.

The owner of the gallery, Supian Noor, here on Wednsday (Nov 20, 2019) said, some time ago he received an order of 200 pieces of the products from a businessman from China.

"But unfortunately we have not been able to fulfill it,"  he told telling that the limited craftsmen caused his party could not produce crafts in  a large number continuously.

"We have received a visit from handicraft products importers from three contries, namely China, South Korea, and Germany," he said.

According to him, those businessmen were interested in purchasing purun and water hyacinth crafts.

The joint enterprise group (KUB) of Kembang Ilung has actually cooordinates six groups of crafters with a total number of 120 spread in several villages. Training in design and motifs had often been held facilitated by various parties, but the results have not been as expected.

"We realize that each craftman has different level of ability. Not all are able to produce expected quality products for export," he explained. 

He acknowledged to have monitored to a number of crafters group in other districts or cities in South Kalimantan, but did not find the quality and quantity that supported.

Supian hoped, government to be more often to hold training, especially related to quality of craft products, in order there are many more artisan ready to produce quality products. 

So far, he admitted, the marketing of craft products through KUB Kembang Ilung was still in semi-finished products to Bali. If marketed overseas, it must be through a third party and in a limited number of products.
