The North Hulu Sungai chapter of the National Handicraft Council (Dekranasda HSU) held craft training for youth from members of the Indonesian National Youth Committee (KNPI) dan Peatland Restoration Agency (BRG) in the hope they will become both crafters and entrepreneurs in craft business.
Secretary of Dekranasda HSU Muhammad Yani here on Friday said the training aimed to increase the existance of crafters, especially among youth, in order they will grow to be craftsmen as well as entrepreneurs who involve in MSME.
"We involve younger generation from youth organization so they can play role in improving the quality of handicrafts in HSU," Yani pointed out.

Meanwhile, the training instructor Supian Noor acknowledged that craft training held by Dekranasda HSU this time was different from other trainings.
"Usually it is held for village artisans, but this time it is for members of youth organization from KNPI and BRG to be directed to be become news entrepreneurs," he mentioned.
Supian said, in the first stage the participants were given basic craft techniques. The total 20 of them came from swampy villages with large potential of hyacinth as raw materials for crafts.

One of whom was Lisa Ariyanti, who admitted to have been doing handicraft activities in her Murung Panggang Village, but people here still produced semi-finished products. while the marketing was determined by middlemen or collectors at below standard selling price.

"I hope to improve the quality in term of design and motifs, so craft products in our village could be marketed through KUB (joint enterpise group) Kembang Ilung to outside area and even abroad," she said.
