Hundreds of jukung (wooden-boat without motor) ridden by what is locally called as acil-acil (merchant women) celebrated the 2019 Beauty of Lok Baintan Floating Market Festival, a yearly agenda of the Banjar District Government.
The Banjar Culture and Tourism Agency, who organized the festival, recorded as many as 558 jukungs and merchants participated. It was centered at the pier in the Sungai Pinang village, Sungai Tabuk sub-district, and Regent of Banjar Khalilurrahman came with his wife the Chairwoman of TP PKK Banjar Raudhatul Wardiyah.
The acil-acil rowed their jukung loaded with various fruits, vegetables, traditional cakes, souvenirs, and a variety of Banjar specific food.
The festival was running lively filled with a variety of event, including jukung tanglong (jukung ornamented with lampion), ornamented jukung, photo contest, and local culture attraction.
Regent Khalilurrahman in his remarks thanked all participants of the festival for their participation and support to make it became lively.
"Let us together build our tourism potentials, so it has added value for the community and the region, a solution to open employment and improving people's economy," he pointed out.
Lok Baintan Floating Market is said as one of tradition that should continues to be preserved. One of which, he asked, by maintaining the cleanliness and not to throw waste into the river.
