The district government of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, began the construction of offices in the new Pulau Laut Sigam Sub-district resulted from partition, on an area of 4,5 hectares.

Regent of Kotabaru H Sayed Jafar here on Monday remarked the office area of Pulau Laut Sigam will become a pilot as it integrated offices of sub-district, police, and military.

"Several important offices are in one area that is equipped with a hall and a field can be used together, such as for ceremonies and so on," he said.

The Pulau Laut Sigam Sub-district is a new sub-district resulted from separation of Pulau Laut Utara Sub-district, which has 17 villages and 4 urban villages.

It is likely, for the regional development, the partition will also happen to the area of Sebelimbingan (also in Pulau Laut Utara).

"We should be grateful for the expansion of the region and building the sub-district such as this which indirectly will grow and develop the local people's economy," he pointed out.

For the people of Sigam, he continued, it is an extraordinary gift, because along with the construction of sub-district office, sub-district military (koramil), and sector police, in the near future several economic centers, such as LPG filling, will also be built.

Thus, people here will no longer dependent on Banjarmasin for the supply of LPG, as the needs for people of Kotabaru and its surroundings can be fulfilled from Sigam.

In additon, some factories will also be built, such as fish canning, and fuel bunkers to serve the needs of fishermen making it easier for the residents.

Related to the establishment of fuel bunker, the regent acknowledged to have coordinated with Pertamina management, so the supply will be adjusted with the needs.
