Jakarta (ANTARA) - Russian and British embassies in Jakarta have issued an advisory to their citizens to steer clear from the area where demonstrations will be staged ahead of the announcement of the election results on May 22.
"In connection with the announcement of election results on May 22, the masses will stage a demonstration at the General Election Commission (KPU) building. To avoid security risks, Russian citizens have been advised to avoid places where the rally will be staged," the Russian Embassy noted through its official Facebook account in Jakarta on Monday.
The Russian Embassy also called on Russian citizens to adhere to instructions from embassy representatives and avoid conflicts while communicating with local residents.
In an emergency scenario, Russian citizens are requested to contact the embassy on: + 62 21 522 29 12/14 or email at consindonesia@mid.ru.
In the meantime, the British Embassy in Jakarta has also issued a warning over security risks and threats of terrorist attacks.
"On May 22, 2019, the General Election Commission (KPU) announced the official results of elections. British citizens must avoid all demonstrations owing to the risk of violence," noted a statement of the British Embassy on its official website on Monday.
The British Embassy also reported that Indonesia would bear witness to terrorist attacks.
"Terrorists are likely to attempt to launch attacks in Indonesia. Terrorist groups continue to orchestrate attacks and have the capacity and intent to carry them out at any time and place in the country. Types of attacks have included suicide bombing and small-arms fire, targeting public and crowded places. Be vigilant and take care at all times," according to the British Embassy.
Those abroad and in need of emergency assistance from the UK government can contact the nearest British embassy, consulate, or high commission. Consular support may be limited in parts of Indonesia, given the size of the country and remoteness of some areas.
People can contact the emergency services at 111 or 112 for the police, 118 or 119 for ambulance and rescue, or 113 for assistance in the event of a fire. The tourist police in Jakarta can be contacted through: 021 526 4073. EDITED BY INE
