Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Banjarmasin City Government through the Development Planning and Research Agency (Barenlitbangda) in collaboration with researchers from the University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) Banjarmasin conducted a study on the existence of a traditional raft house of the Banjar tribe (known as rumah lanting).
The exposure to the results of the research and study was carried out by the agency and ULM in front of various parties at City Hall on Tuesday.
Dr Ira Mentayani as chair of the ULM research team explained that the research was conducted from several aspects, including historical, architectural, and social aspects, with respondents in several locations, Seberang Mesjid, Pasar Lama, or the Mantuil area, where there were still rumah lanting or lanting houses.
Lanting house is part of the local wisdom component of riverbank settlements in Banjarmasin City. It is a floating raft house with its foundation consisting of three large wooden tree trunks. Lanting house is always played by waves from ships that are going back and forth on the river.
According to her, the existing lanting houses come from two cultures, namely the upstream community of the South Kalimantan river and the upstream community of the Barito river, Central Kalimantan.
She said, the results of the study could be a reference by the City Government in an effort to develop a lanting house for tourism.
In the meeting the researchers asked for various responses, criticisms, and input so that the final results could be more perfect.
