Amuntai, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) asks the public to be aware of preserved food products, especially dried squid and teri (very small sea-fish) medan from Java.
"At the end of 2018 our officers from the BPOM in North Hulu Sungai discovered the circulation of dried squid and teri medan which preserved using formalin," said Head of BPOM at HSU Bambang Heri Purwanto in Amuntai, Tuesday.
Bambang said it is necessary to watch out specifically for teri medan products and dried squid from Java because it has been proven to contain fornalin after tested with Formalin test kits by Balai POM, while other food products from Java are still safe for consumption.
"Dried squid and teri medan containing dangerous formalin ingredients. According to the seller's information they were supplied from Surabaya," he said.
While salted fish, said Bambang, does not contain dangerous formalin because it is a local product of South Kalimantan and Samarinda.
According to him, fish entrepreneurs in South Kalimantan are not familiar with the use of formaldehyde materials, in addition to these corpse preservatives, the price in South Kalimantan is quite expensive and difficult to obtain.
