Banjarmasin (Antaranews) - Although traditional markets will be one of the elements of culture and tourist attraction, Mayor of Banjarmasin H Ibnu Sina still insists on banning the use of plastic bags in the people's market.
He said, by not using plastic bags it is expected that the traditional market will be healthy and comfortable according to the tagline of the city, Baiman (Banjarmasin Barasih Wan Nyaman = Banjarmasin Clean and Comfortable).
"We get a report that Banjarmasin is the only city in Indonesia that prohibits the use of plastic bags in modern markets and ask for support this year, we are starting to enter traditional markets. We begin with two markets, namely Pandu Market and Antasari Market," he said in the peak of the People's Market Festival at floating market pier in Siring Menara Pandang attraction, Sunday (16/09).
He explained, the ban on the use of plastic bags in Indonesia was initially only carried out by the city of Banjarmasin.
As time went by, finally several cities in Indonesia followed in the footsteps of the city whose popularly called as A Thousand Rivers City. "Until now 5 other cities in Indonesia have followed. Hopefully, in the future, it will be better, because at the same time we must also make traditional markets as healthy and comfortable markets," he said.
