Kandangan, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Deputy Regent of Hulu Sungai Selatan (HSS), South Kalimantan, H Suriani encouraged Kampung Haruan or snakehead fish village in Asam Village, Sungai Raya Sub-district, to increase fish production.
HSS Deputy Regent was speaking when inspecting the village on Wednesday accompanided by Head of HSS Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Office Hj Lutfiana and her staff, as well as the local village head.
Deputy Regent saw that Kampung Haruan has a a big potential for further development. Thus, he with head of the revelevant agency visited the village directly.

"We see great potential for haruan and other freshwater fish to be developed here, to increase the regional fishery production,” he said.
He urged the village government, especially Asam Village, to continue increasing fish production. With good synergy, he said, this potential will not only impact the economy but also public health.
Meanwhile, Head of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Office explained that the Asam Village has been designated as Kampung Haruan since 2021, with the aim to develop haruan fish which is known for its high albumen content and health benefits.
"This potential is enormous, not only for the production of fish for consumption, but also for the development of albumen-based health products. We accompanied the Deputy Regent to inspect it," she said.
She expected this potential to be further developed and to produce albumen to meet the community's fish consumption needs.
"In the future it's possible that this Kampung Haruan will become a thematic tourism village that can attract public interest and improve the welfare of village residents,” she concluded.
