Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - A kelotok or traditional motorboat passenger fell and drowned while passing in the Kuin Kacil River in South Banjarmasin, Monday, at around 14:00 pm.
"Victim named Ari Rivaldi (14), a resident of Jalan Pulau Alalak RT 05, Barito Kuala District," said Head of Water and Air Unit (Satpolairud) of Banjarmasin City Police Comr (Kompol) Untung Widodo here.
According to witnesses, Untung said, the victim fell from KM Abdurahman and drowned in Kuin Kacil River when passing in the waters.
At that time the ship passed an electrical wire that stretched above the river and hit the victim who was on the roof of the kelotok.
"According to other witnesses, possibly the victim was being exposed to electricity and electrocutted then fell into the river and until now has not been found," said Untung.
Until late Monday afternoon, search efforts were still conducted by joint team from Satpolairud, Basarnas and rescue volunteers assisted by local people.
On the incident, Untung again reminded every passenger to no longer sit on the roof of the ship.
Untung also asserted that his staff often give a loud reprimand to the passengers if they see anyone on the roof in order every passengers survived. They also often remind not to forget to use safety vest.
