Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Banjarmasin Culture and Tourism Agency head Ikhsan Alhak said a 200 meters floating pier will be built on Martapura River dike (popularly known here as siring) at Jalan Piere Tendean.
"The development process is currently entering the auction stage with a budget allocation of Rp3,5 billion from the city budget," he said here on Sunday.
According to him, the floating dock on the siring is very important, because the existing one does not meet the standards of the beauty of tourism.
"The one in front of the Piare Tendean siring is just a makeshift dock, because the foundation is of tree trunk, so we will build a better quality," said Ikhsan.
According to him, the floating pier will be used for kelotok (small motorboat) to dock or stopover and can also be used for floating market merchants.
The floating market merchants who enliven the attaction every Saturday and Sunday morning need a good mooring place to serve their buyers, who are tourists.
"The existence of the floating market is the biggest tourist attraction to come to the siring object of tourism," he explained.
The agency recorded more than 6,000 people visit the siring object of tourism every week, both domestic and foreign.
Moreover, he said, tourists can enjoy the river tour of Martapura river, as many river transportation services (kelotok) available.
He said there are as many as 35 tourist destinations in Banjarmasin are reliable and almost all can be accessed via river.
