Banjarmasin, S Kalimatan (ANTARA) - Thousands of people appeared to take part in the lively 8th Banjarmasin Sasirangan Festival 2024 held at Siring Sungai Martapura (Martapura River Embankment) attraction in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, Sunday.
All parade participants wore Sasirangan, a typical South Kalimantan cloth, with colourful and amazing pattern and motifs.
Banjarmasin Mayor H Ibnu Sina, who also involved in the parade, a yearly carnival which has became the city's calender of event, expressed his appreciation for the high public interest in making the Banjarmasin Sasirangan Festival a success.
It was recorded that 72 teams came from Banjarmasin City employees from various agencies, students and general public from various groups and organizations who took part.

"Alhamdulillah, today there almost 3,000 participants all basasirangan (Banjar language means wearing sasirangan)," he said.
He hopes that the activity, which aims to elevate sasirangan cloth to national and international level, will be more lively in the years to come.
Acting Head of Banjarmasin Culture, Youth, Sport and Tourism Agency Machli Riyadi said the number of participants exceeded the target set by the organizing committee.
"Thank God it was an extraordinary success because the participants were very enthusiastic. We are targeting 1,600 to a maximum of 2,000 people, but it turned out that almost 3,000 people took part," he said.
"This proves that this activity is quite eagerly awaited by community and elements taking part in the parade, all of whom are proud of Sasirangan," he said.
