Amuntai, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Agency of North Hulu Sungai (HSU) Regency, South Kalimantan, is conducting river normalization to reduce the impact of flooding, especially in residential areas.
“River normalization is our effort to accelerate the decline of water, in case there will be floding again in the Amuntai urban areas,” said Head of HSU PUPR Amous Silitonga through the Head of Water Resources (SDA) Sahabudin Noor to media crew in HSU, Monday.
Sahabudin said that river normalization is conducted by dredging rivers at an estimated 25 points and cleaning water channels spread across 15 points.

Meanwhile, the Water Resources is also rehabilatating two water gates.
Sahabudin said that the activities carried out were from the community's aspiration through village forum and later continued to the sub-district until the district development planning forum (musrenbang).
Sahabudin expected that the activities carried out by PUPR through SDA section will be able to reduce the impact of flooding in HSU.
"Hopefully (what we do) will speed up water reduction , considering HSU often experiences flooding every year," he said.
