Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Minamas Plantation through its subsidiary, PT Langgeng Muara Makmur (PT LMR), in collaboration with the Kotabaru Environment Office (DLH) planted 52,356 productive tree seedlings at the company's conservation area in Binturung Village, Pamukan Utara, to reduce emissions and achieve its net-zero emissions commitment.
DLH Secretary Nasrullah Zamzami welcomed and appreciated the action taken by Minamas through PT LMR, its subsidiary.
”Thank you Minamas Plantation for the initiative to plant trees to protect the environment. I hope other companies to do the same. We are the first generation to end poverty and the last generation to stop climate change,” he said in Kotabaru as reported on Thursday.

Reforestation is one of strategies to reduce emissions and achieve net-zero commitment. Other strategy is to maintain and preserve biodiversity through the management of High Conservation value (NKT) areas within the company's HGU (cultivation right) land.
Minamas has taken a strategic and effective step by planting trees at PT LMR in collaboration with Balai Lingkungan Usaha to support a significant ecosystem and ecological sustainability that will benefit the surrounding communities.
Head of Minamas Plantation Suistainability, Alagendran Maniam, said Minamas is a subsidiary of SD Guthrie, the first palm oil company in the world to set short-and long-term net-zero greenhouse gas emissions reduction target, approved by Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).
RCEO Region KSP Abdul Jalil Sulaiman expressed his appreciation to all parties who have supported this program, especially South Kalimantan BKSDA and Kotabaru DLH, sub-district coordination forum (forkopimcam), and community leaders who have provided space and support for the success of this project.
"We are committed to implement this program sustainably and hope it will become a national and international reference in managing lanscape sustainably in palm oil industry,” he said.
