Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - PT PLN (Persero) South and Central Kalimantan Main Distribution Unit (UID Kalselteng) has succeeded to connect and "light up" as many as 3,217 villages and urban villages spread in the two neighboring provinces served by the state-run electricity company.
General Manager of PT PLN South and Central Kalimantan Muhammad Joharifin said the electrification of villages in South Kalimantan has reached 99.25 percent and 76.45 percent in Central Kalimantan.
"Until April 2024, 2,001 out of 2,016 villages in 13 districts and cities in South Kalimantan have been electrified and 1,201 of villages and urban villages spread across 14 districts and cities in Central Kalimantan," he said here on Sunday (May 25, 2024).
By the end of Q3 2024, PLN is targeting a completion of electricity infrastructure development in 70 villages and hamlets both in South and Central Kalimantan.
Joharifin said, PLN continues to strive so that all villages in South and Central Kalimantan are 100 percent served by PLN.
"We hope that through synergy and collaboration with all parties, all villages in South and Central Kalimantan will soon electrified," he pointed out.

In village electrification process, he acknowledged, PLN is often faced with difficult roads and dense forest, but with the spirit to electrify all corners of the country, everything can finally be done together.
"Electricity development to 3T ( disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost) regions is the government's mandate to PLN in term of implementing the fifth principle of Pancasila, namely Social Justice for All Indonesia People with equal ditribution of electricity infrastructure to remote areas, so whatever the challanges PLN continues to be committed to build electricity for the whole community," said Joharifin.
PLN's success in lighting up areas to remote villages has received appreciation from a number of parties. PLN is considered capable of serving electricity as a primary need and supporting life activities as well as driving the economy of communities from urban to remote areas of the country.
"Electricity is a basic need and we appreciate PLN's performance to connect electricity to far away areas in the forest, such as Panaan Village, Bintang Ara Sub-district, Tabalong. It's incredible. People were busy buying electronic appliances for their needs, pushing economic turnover in Tabalong District," said Chairman of Tabalong DPRD Muchlis when visiting PLN office in Banjarbaru some time ago.
Regent of Gunung Mas, Central Kalimantan, Jaya Samaya Monong said that electricity has made all kind of people activities easier from urban areas to remote villages. Thus, people's economy and welfare are improving.
"Electricity is very important for everyone, because it makes all form of activiteis easier and improving community's economy," said Jaya at the inauguration of lighting up village electricity for Tumbang Posu, Tumbang Maraya and Lawang Kanji in Maraya Village, Damang Batu Sub-district, Gunung Mas District, early May 2024.
