Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The state-owned electricity company PT PLN (Persero) urges all community to be alert to the potential of flood and extreme weather which has the potential to occur during the rainy season.
The PLN Executive Vice President for Corporate Communication and TJSL Gregorius Adi Trianto invites the entire community to actively report to PLN if they are affected by flood or experience other potential electrical hazards.
"It's now rainy season, we appeal the public if there are things that are potentitally dangerous, such as trees that are approaching network and potentially hit PLN electriity network, please inform PLN," he noted in a statement through Public Relation of PT PLN Main Distribution Unit of South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan in Banjarbaru, Sunday.
Information and report can be made via PLN Mobile, PLN Contact Center 123, or to the nearest PLN servce office so that officers can immediately carry out pruning (trimming tree branchces).
"When heavy rain occur which has the potential to cause flooding, PLN is forced to temporarily stop electricity supply, prioritizing customers safety and avoiding damage to electricity network," he expounded.
Customers, he said, can also avoding potential electrical hazards by following tips to preven losses if floods inundate their homes.
Gregorius said, the first step must be taken when rainwater starts to enter the house or when there is a water leak near electricity supply is to immediately turn off the electricity using Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) kWh meter.
Then unplug electronic equipment from socket and immediately move it to a safe place not accessible to water and ensure that both hands and body are dry when carrying out this activity.
"We suggest people to use protective equipment such as waterproof shoes in condition of heavy rain or flood when doing activities in or outside the house," he said.
The four tip is to anticipate installation damage and leak by rejuvenating the installation in building or house so as to reduce the potential for electrical hazards from the customer's side, especially when it rains.
"This step taken so that people can avoid the potential danger of electricity, because water is a strong conduktor. Let's all increase our vigilance, especially durng heavy rain which has the potential for flooding," said Gregorius.
