Banjarmasin, S Kalimatan (ANTARA) - The Banjarmasin National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) personnel have evacuated nine crews of KM Arif Wijaya Kusuma ship which ran aground in the waters east of Kotabaru.
Head of Basarnas Banjarmasin Al Amrad here on Monday said four SAR personnel evacuated nine crew members who were stranded on the coral.
“The condition of the ship broke, but Alhamdulillah (Thank God) all the victims survived,” he said.
Al Amrad said the agency received the information about the ill-fated ship from the Kotabaru Water Police Unit on Sunday (18/2) around 23.17 Wita, while the ship ran aground on the same day at around 13.00 Wita.
“All of the crews have been evacuated, the exact point of the incident was in Tanjung Mangkok (Kotabaru),” he said.
The incident occurred, he said, when the ship sailed from Tanjung Mangkok to Rembang, suddenly the ship ran aground on a rock east of Kotabaru.
After 11 hours, said Al Amrad, the Kotabaru SAR team found out the incident and immmediately dispatched four personnel.
The SAR team found nine victims were on the damaged ship on a reef. The evacuation process took about two hours until they reached the land at the Kotabaru Police Water Unit of the Kotabaru District Police at 01.50 Wita.
Al Amrad said during the evacuation, the Kotabaru Basarnas was assisted by five personnel from the KotabaruWater Police and local community.
“Alhamdulillah, there were no obstacles during the process of evacuation, everything went smoothly thanks to cooperation of all parties,” said Al Amrad.
