Pelaihari, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Tanah Laut Livestock Service said that artificial insemination has reached 15,344 cows by December 2023 or between 60 to 70 percent of the target of 22,200 cows.
"While number of birth as of December 2023 was 13,214," said Head of the Service's Breeding Production and Animal Feed Ferry Kusuma in Pelaihari, Tanah Laut District, Monday.
He acknowledged that there was a decline compared to previous year due to several factors, the outbreak of foot and mouth disease and decrease in population.
"Compared to 2022, the artificial insemination reached 21,000 cows and birth rate 17,000," he said.

The availability of cattle, he expounded, prioritizes meeting the local needs in Tanah Laut, because it has an animal market.
Meanwhwile, demand fot cattle breeds in Tanah Laut is running well, because the market provides many kinds of choices, such asbroodstock.
"At the beginning of this year it started to get better, because previously the market was almost empty due to long dry season that it was difficult for livestock to eat," said Ferry.
