Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Banjarmasin City Government this year will expend funds amounting to Rp8 billion for the construction of community sanitation facilities (Sanimas).
"Municipal government this year will build a lot of community sanitation facilities, such as MCK (showers, laundry, toilet), and bioseptik tank," said Head of Human Settlements and Housing Banjarmasin A Fanani Syaifuddin, while in the council building on Wednesday.
According to him, the construction of public sanitary facilities will be conducted in densely populated areas and slums, where most people still use the river as a place of bathing, washing, and toilet.
"This is annual program of municipal government with the aim of providing an eligible Sanimas means, up to the citizens no longer use the river water which heavy polluted," said A Fanani.
As is known, he said, there are still many people living on the riverside. They still perform daily activities, such as bathing, washing, and defecate on the river, but the river water is already heavily polluted due to garbage and other debris.
"It's very alarming. In order to reduce pollution to the environment and to the health of citizens, the Sanimas program spurred further by municipal government," he said.
