Rantau, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Tapin government plans to normalize the Raya Belanti River in Binuang as a flood disaster mitigation measure, but it requires cooperation with the Banjar District Government for downstream handling.
The Tapin District Secretary H Masyraniansyah here on Wednesday explained that normalization is a definite step to deal with floods that occur every year.
"There will be a budget for river normalization, and there must be cooperation with Banjar District," he said after the disaster mitigation coordination meeting.
Every year floods inundate the Binuang Sub-district area. Shallowness and blocked flow are the cause.
"Instead of flooding every year, it is better to repair the infrastructure," he said.
According to the Tapin Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) records in early 2021, a total of 1,492 residents of Raya Belanti Urban Village were evacuated due to flooding.
As a first step to minimize the flood that swamped the area, the Tapin government plans to normalize the river along two kilometers.
